http://buletinonline.net/images/stories/aberita19/fnutusan07e.jpgAmid a string of racially charged statements coming out from UMNO’s side, PAS warned all parties especially media practitioners to avoid statements that can create uneasiness among the country’s various communities.

“No one should point to any community just because they are not happy with the results of the 13th General Election,” said party secretary-general Mustafa Ali today.

Mustafa urged the authorities to carry out their responsibility to protect society from racist provocations by irresponsible groups, saying these were being made to engineer racial conflict.

Mustafa said Malaysians of all races had rejected BN. Out of 11,256,147 votes cast last Sunday, Pakatan Rakyat has a 49.96 percent share while BN has 46.53 percent.

“Only irresponsible people will interpret this phenomenon of rejecting BN from a racial perspective,” he said.

Lamenting UMNO’s pyrrhic victory over the weekend, the headline of its mouthpiece Utusan Malaysia today (pic) drew condemnations from various quarters for accusing the Chinese of ingratitude by voting for the opposition.

Yesterday, UMNO bloggers indulged in extremely racist taunts, with one comment even calling for a repeat of the May 13 riots. Earlier, prime minister Najib Razak attributed BN’s poor performance to a “Chinese tsunami”. Many others such as former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad and former Melaka chief minister Ali Rustam have also made similar statements. – HD
