KUALA TERENGGANU: The Terengganu government is drawing up measures to turn around 20 state government-linked companies (GLCs) that recorded losses, as identified in the Auditor General’s Report Series 2/2026.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar said the state monitored the companies’ finances and performance through monthly meetings.
“We examine every issue raised at GLC meetings. The state government welcomes the findings, including those in the Auditor General’s Report.
“We will make improvements from time to time to prevent further losses,” he told reporters after accompanying the Regent of Terengganu, Tengku Muhammad Ismail Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin, who opened a biodiversity seminar at Wisma Darul Iman.
The report found that 20 of 25 subsidiaries of the Terengganu government or state statutory bodies recorded combined losses of RM24.01 million in the 2024 financial year.
Samsuri, who is also Kemaman MP, said the state conducted its own audits in addition to those carried out by the National Audit Department.
He said the subsidiaries’ losses differed significantly from those recorded a decade ago.
Some had never made a profit and had to be closed after his administration took over in 2018, he said.
“The state government is undertaking various efforts to prevent its subsidiaries from continuing to suffer losses.” NST
