KUALA LUMPUR: A Pas member of parliament has once again called for Malaysia Airlines to stop serving alcohol on flights.

Mohd Hasnizan Harun (PN-Hulu Selangor) said he had personally seen and heard the dilemmas faced by Muslim flight attendants who were forced to serve alcoholic beverages.

“(They are) forced to serve something clearly prohibited in Islam.

“The same goes for passengers who feel uncomfortable with the situation. This is not about denying anyone’s rights — it is about respecting the religion and sensitivities of the majority of Malaysians.

“I urge the Transport Ministry to put a complete stop to the serving of alcohol on flights,” he said during the debate on the Supply Bill 2026.

In 2017, then Pas Youth deputy chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari had made a similar suggestion after a drunk passenger caused a Malaysia Airlines flight to turn back to Melbourne. – NST
