SMSL, and Stop Lynas Groups including Kuantan Assemblymen to stage a public protest at Parliament House on Thursday 26 September 2013 (today) from 10.00am, beginning at Parliament House Entrance.
SMSL together with Stop Lynas groups and supporters about 100 strong will be handing over a memorandum to the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) to demand for the immediate suspension of the Lynas temporary operating licence (TOL).
The TOL was issued last November to Australia’s Lynas Corporation for its controversial rare earth refinery plant in Gebeng near Kuantan.
To date, Lynas has failed to fulfil one of the key conditions of the TOL as it has yet to figure out how to manage its massive amount of toxic waste safely.
This will contaminate our environment and put public health and local livelihoods at risk
