KUALA TERENGGANU: Four children who ran away from their home in Kampung Saujana, Setiu, claiming to have been abused by their father, are now being treated at the Sultan Nur Zahirah Hospital (HSNZ) here.

Setiu CID chief, ASP Idris Mohamad, said the hospital was providing treatment and counselling to the children, aged between seven and 14, for the ordeal they went through.

“The children are still being treated at the hospital as they are still traumatised. We don’t know when they will be discharged,” he said when contacted here today.

Following the incident, police detained the 59-year-old father and he will will be remanded for three days, starting yesterday, to shed light on the case.

Yesterday, the siblings comprising three girls aged 14, 10 and eight, and their seven-year-old brother fled home because they could no longer bear to be abused by their father.

Their mother was said to have run off since last September, but the children were still in contact with her through the phone.

The eldest daughter, who dropped out from school, said their father had kicked, punched and even burnt them with cigarette butts.

Their injuries were discovered after they were sent to the Setiu Hospital, before being referred to the HSNZ.
