KUALA TERENGGANU: State Education, Higher Education, Science, Technology and Human Resource Committee chairman Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman has dismissed a report in an English daily yesterday alleging that university students here were selling sex toys and involved in prostitution.

He said it was impossible to carry out such immoral activities with impunity as khalwat (close proximity) law was strongly enforced by the state religious department.

“There are cases of students nabbed for committing khalwat, but the number is very small and certainly did not indicate there was a syndicate offering sexual services as alleged in the report.”

Razif said anyone who had information about such activities should lodge a report instead of making allegations through the media.

He urged parents not to be unduly concerned about the welfare of their children in universities here.

“Parents should not worry about sending their children to study here as what was alleged in the report is not true,” he said.-NST
