The decision by PAS Information Chief Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man not to contest for the deputy president’s post is expected to augur well for the party’s unity, says PAS Supporters Congress chairman Hu Pang Chaw.

He said any last-minute bid by potential contenders would cause a serious rift in the party.

He added that at the moment, it would seem that the “political barometer” among members was still under control, but the crucial decision by Tuan Ibrahim may also invite potential contenders.

“If a surprise move by the contenders happens, I believe that the party’s unity would still be intact, although there are talks of a clash between the conservatives and the professionals.

“Any surprise move by the contenders would result in regrets because it will either split the party or seen as a move as a political suicide on the part of the contenders,” he said when contacted last night.

Hu was asked to comment on the decision by Tuan Ibrahim, who expressed his intentions not to vie for the post through his Facebook post that appeared in an online portal,

Tuan Ibrahim, who is in Qatar, posted his full press statement in the portal.

Tuan Ibraim said he was only interested to contest for the vice-president’s post and thanked all PAS area commissioners for their confidence in him to carry the responsibilities for the deputy president’s post should he win.

As of 5pm Thursday, Datuk Husam Musa, who is said to be returning from a visit to Kurdistan, and Kelantan Deputy Mentri Besar Datuk Mohd Amar Abdullah, in an SMS reply, said that they would comment on the matter Friday.
