KUALA TERENGGANU: A total of 1,439ha of crops were destroyed in the recent floods in Terengganu, resulting in RM5mil in losses, said state Agriculture Department Director Md Yusoff Maidin.

This, he said, was a rough estimate and the actual losses were expected to be higher.

He said 1,927 farmers were affected and the department had distributed forms to them to gauge the extent of the destruction of crops like padi and vegetables.

Meanwhile, Terengganu Vet-erinary Services Department Director Dr Azizol Mohd Sharum said 1,883 cows and chicken were killed in the floods, causing losses estimated at RM113,000 for 32 farmers.

In Pahang, floods receded completely and the 31 flood victims in the Bera district were allowed to return home. – Bernama
