Pas is aiming to capture Selangor and Pahang, while making further inroads into Penang in the next general election (GE16), says the Islamist party’s election director Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor.
Describing the polls as the “mother of all elections”, Sanusi said Pas also wanted to retain Terengganu, Kelantan, Kedah, and Perlis, and also expand its influence in Perak.
Pas currently holds seven state seats in Penang and 17 in Perak.
Speaking at the launch of Parit Buntar Pas’ electoral machinery last night, Sanusi said Pas had grown from holding just one parliamentary seat to the 43 it currently holds in the Dewan Rakyat.
Sanusi said Pas’ expansion proved the party was no longer a small player but a party which had a national presence and strong grassroots machinery.
He said one of Pas’ key strengths was its members’ adherence to party decisions and leadership directives, including their willingness to set aside personal interests for the collective good.
He added that discipline was evident not only during elections, but also through educational, welfare and community activities carried out throughout the year.
Sanusi said Pas did not view government projects as a source of benefit for the party, and that leaders had been reminded not to lobby for contracts or leverage their positions as elected representatives to secure them.
He called on the people of Perak to give Pas the opportunity to govern the state at the next general election.NST
