KUALA TERENGGANU – A former army commando was sentenced to 19 years’ jail by the High Court here yesterday for causing the death of his 80-year-old grandaunt two years ago.<\/p>\n
Mohd Nassir Abdul Manan, 45, pleaded guilty to culpable homicide not amounting to murder of Muda Mat Zin at a house in Jalan Baru, Kampung Bukit Pak Sabah, Dungun, between 9am and 7.30am on Oct, 12, 2009.<\/p>\n
Judge Datuk Yazid Mustafa said the prosecution had produced satisfactory evidence for conviction.<\/p>\n
He said the actions of the accused, who was under the influence of drugs at the time of the killing, had cost the life of a person with whom he had strong family ties with.<\/p>\n
Deputy public prosecutor Mohamad Jazamuddin Ahmad Nawawi prosecuted while Nassir was not represented.<\/p>\n
The victim was found in a pool of blood and was believed to have been bludgeoned repeatedly with a hammer and slashed with a knife several times.<\/p>\n
Her body was discovered by her daughter, Rokiah Ali, 56, who went to her house at 6.30pm to deliver food.<\/p>\n
A post-mortem revealed that the victim suffered blunt force trauma and several slash wounds in the attack.<\/p>\n
An excessive amount of water was also found in her lungs.<\/p>\n
Nassir, who was arrested on Oct 13, 2009, admitted to disposing a knife which was used to attack the victim at a drain near Sekolah Menegah Sultan Omar, Dungun.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
