She admitted that the pandemic that hit the country had put pressure on many people,\u00a0especially family relationships after the government had to enforce\u00a0the Movement Control Order (MCO) in March to curb the spread of infection.<\/p>\n
\u201cHowever, we need to take care of our families. In the current situation, we do not want undesirable things to\u00a0happen such as domestic violence or emotional\u00a0abuse or any issues that can affect family relationships.<\/p>\n
As family members, this \u2018space\u2019 (ties) should be used as much as possible and we should take the opportunity to strengthen the relationship among us,\u201d she told reporters after launching the state-level Kembara Prihatin programme at the state level here today.<\/p>\n
She was commenting on a report on Dec 16 on the emotional\u00a0and sexual abuse involving children\u00a0which has\u00a0been on the rise during the MCO period and quite alarming.<\/p>\n
During the Dewan Rakyat sitting on Dec 14, Siti Zailah said\u00a03,875 child abuse cases were reported from January to September this year, compared with 6,061 cases for the same period in 2019 and 5,578 in 2018.<\/p>\n
In this regard, she urged the public\u00a0to cooperate by\u00a0disseminating information to the agencies concerned\u00a0to help the victims as soon as possible.<\/p>\n
\u201cNeighbours can complain about issues such as abuse via\u00a0the Talian Kasih hotline 15999 or WhatsApp at 0192615999 for the\u00a0relevant officers and agencies to protect the victims,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
