MURALI<\/font><\/p>\n<p>KUALA TERENGGANU: Proceedings at the state assembly were unusually quiet as Barisan Nasional backbenchers who turned up in full force abstained from fielding questions and debating motions.<\/p>\n<p>Except for Rosli Othman (BN \u2013 Kemasik) who seconded the motion on the Supply Bill raised by Mentri Besar Datuk Ahmad Said, the proceedings were subdued.<\/p>\n<p>The proceedings turned out to be a mere question-and-answer session between Barisan and the opposition camp.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, speculation of backbenchers tabling a vote of no-confidence against Ahmad Said during the assembly yesterday also fizzled out.<\/p>\n<p>On seeing the quiet atmosphere in the House, the opposition camp grabbed the opportunity to jeer the Barisan team.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI see that Barisan members are extremely silent today, this is indeed a phenomenal scenario; is this because of the Ramadan month or a show of protest? (against Ahmad Said),\u201d asked Mohd Wahid Endut (PAS \u2013 Wakaf Mempelam).<\/p>\n<p>State opposition whip Datuk Harun Taib (PAS \u2013 Manir) then sarcastically remarked that perhaps the Barisan backbenchers are keeping quiet as a show of penitence during the holy month.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut I am surprised why even Toh Chin Yaw (BN \u2013 Bandar) is quiet without uttering any word,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Questioned about the lack of enthusiasm of the backbenchers in the House, Ahmad Said replied: \u201cYou have to ask them about this. Probably they don\u2019t have any questions.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, the House passed a RM280.814mil supplementary budget for this year.<\/p>\n<p>The additional budget is allocated for the state secretary\u2019s office (RM250.214mil), RM30mil for the Land and Mines office, and RM600,000 for the Public Works Department.<\/p>\n<p>Ahmad Said added that the allocation would be used for development purposes, including the construction of 10,000 low-cost houses for the hardcore poor in the state.-The Star Online<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By R.S.N.
