{"id":7500,"date":"2011-11-17T08:15:55","date_gmt":"2011-11-17T00:15:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/buletinonline.net\/v7\/index.php\/2011\/11\/msia-has-trade-relations-with-israel\/"},"modified":"2011-11-17T08:15:55","modified_gmt":"2011-11-17T00:15:55","slug":"msia-has-trade-relations-with-israel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buletinonlines.net\/v7\/index.php\/msia-has-trade-relations-with-israel\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018M\u2019sia has trade relations with Israel\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.freemalaysiatoday.com\/2011\/11\/17\/msia-has-trade-relations-with-israel\/mukriz-tun-005\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-65892\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-65892\" src=\"https:\/\/www.freemalaysiatoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/Mukriz-Tun-005-300x200.jpg\" border=\"0\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" style=\"float: left;\" \/><\/a><\/strong>PETALING  JAYA: Though Malaysia does not recognise Israel as a state because of  its support for Palestine, locally-based companies nevertheless have  trade relations with the Jewish state.<\/p>\n<p>International Trade and Industry deputy minister, Mukhriz Mahathir,  confirmed this when he revealed that Malaysia has had bilateral trade  relations with Israel since 1996.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMuch as I despise anything the Zionist do and despite not having  diplomatic relations with Israel, there is trade between companies in  both countries,\u201d said Mukhriz, the son of former prime minister, Dr  Mahathir Mohamad.<\/p>\n<p>Mukhriz said on micro-blogging site Twitter: \u201cUpon request from large  foreign investors here, in 1996 the Cabinet instructed MITI to approve  import from and export to Israel.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added that the bilateral trade is in the electronics and machinery  sectors and that it involved large foreign companies operating in  Malaysia.<\/p>\n<p>The relevation comes as a surprise, especially as the trade ties were established during the Mahathir administration.<\/p>\n<p>Mahathir has been a vocal opponent of Israel and continues this stand  via his Perdana Leadership Foundation which openly opposes Israeli  occupation of Palestinian land.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0 PETALING JAYA: Though Malaysia does not recognise Israel as a state because of its support for Palestine, locally-based companies nevertheless have trade relations with the Jewish state.
