KUALA TERENGGANU: PAS claims the raid by the Selangor Islamic Affairs Department (Jais) on the Damansara Utama Methodist Church (DUMC) earlier this month was politically motivated.<\/p>\n

Saying he had received reliable information from Jais sources, PAS secretary-general Datuk Mustafa Ali<\/a><\/span> alleged that Umno had a role in the Aug 3 raid.<\/p>\n

\u201cI must reveal such information as there has been much speculation about the raid,\u201d he told reporters at the state PAS headquarters here yesterday.<\/p>\n

Mustafa said normally, the Selangor Mentri Besar, the state exco and Jais director would be responsible for the department\u2019s actions but all three were only informed after the raid was conducted.<\/p>\n

He added that the party\u2019s stand had always been clear \u2013 it would not protect anyone who tried to make Muslims murtad<\/em> (convert them).<\/p>\n

\u201cHowever, I was informed that Jais deliberately postponed action against those who tried to convert Muslims so that it becomes a political issue. The aim is to destabilise the Selangor Government and disunite the Pakatan Rakyat component parties,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Mustafa urged the party\u2019s leaders and members not to be trapped by Umno.<\/p>\n
