A business development manager of a subsidiary company of state-owned Terengganu Incorporated was arrested together with six of his family members and proxies by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) allegedly over corruption involving RM5.4 million.<\/p>\n
The 59-year-old manager is suspected to have abused his powers by awarding service and supplies contracts to companies owned by his wife, children, daughter-in-law and proxies between 2010 and 2017.<\/p>\n
“He awarded contracts and projects to a company that where his 52-year-old wife was a director and his two children aged 31 and 34 were shareholders. He also awarded projects to companies owned by his 34-year-old daughter-in-law and two of his proxies who are both aged 40,” sources said.<\/p>\n
Sources also said the apart from supplies, the contracts given to the companies also involved courses and training.<\/p>\n
It is learnt that investigators discovered that some contracts were not fulfilled by the companies yet requisition for payments were made to the state government.<\/p>\n
The suspects were nabbed in simultaneous raids in Terengganu and Kuala Lumpur in a special operation at 9am today.<\/p>\n
MACC senior director of investigations Datuk Simi Abd Ghani who confirmed the arrests when contacted.<\/p>\n
He said the team assigned to probe the case had gone to several locations in Terengganu including the manager’s house in Kemaman to seize documents and evidence relevant to the case.<\/p>\n
