PAS today insisted Marang MP Datuk Seri Tuan Guru Abdul Hadi Awang’s private member\u2019s Bill to raise Shariah punishments be debated when Parliament reconvenes next week.<\/p>\n
PAS secretary-general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan said it was improper for Hadi’s Bill to be deferred further, saying that it had already been postponed in April without reason.<\/p>\n
\u201cDebate should continue to the end, according to procedure, even if it could not be completed in the current session,\u201d he said, adding that a trial would not be stopped without conclusion.<\/p>\n
He then repeated his party’s insistence that the bid to raise Shariah punishments was an exclusively Muslim matter.<\/p>\n
PAS Ulama chief Datuk Dr Mahfodz Mohamed said earlier this week that the Islamist party may defer Hadi’s Bill to after the general election.<\/p>\n
He claimed that PAS would be better poised to push the agenda once it wins additional parliamentary seats in the poll.<\/p>\n
