KUALA TERENGGANU, June 6 (Bernama) — Terengganu Fisheries Department Director Zakaria Ismail said all deep-sea fishing vessels bought from Vietnam and operating locally would be inspected starting June 13 to ascertain they have complied with licensing requirements.<\/p>\n
He said there had been complaints of these operators not landing their catch locally whereas they had been receiving oil subsidies from the government.<\/p>\n

After the inspections, to be carried out at the Chendering Fishing Port, we would decide on whether they could continue operating and receiving the subsidy, he told Bernama when contacted here today.<\/p>\n
As for the other fishing vessels, they would receive oil subsidies under the new rate of RM1.80 per litre starting June 1 compared to RM1.25 previously.<\/p>\n
Under the terms of the licence, deep-sea fishing boats from Vietnam must be fitted with Mobile Transceivers and dock their catch locally.<\/p>\n
Zakaria said the department’s statistics showed there were 210 deep-sea vessels, of which 41 were from Vietnam with full Vietnamese crew onboard.<\/p>\n
