{"id":60622,"date":"2017-09-05T02:33:57","date_gmt":"2017-09-04T18:33:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/buletinonline.net\/v7\/?p=60622"},"modified":"2017-09-05T02:33:57","modified_gmt":"2017-09-04T18:33:57","slug":"egypt-authorities-ban-sunday-edition-pro-govt-daily","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buletinonlines.net\/v7\/index.php\/egypt-authorities-ban-sunday-edition-pro-govt-daily\/","title":{"rendered":"Egypt Authorities Ban Sunday Edition Of Pro-Govt Daily"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Egyptian authorities have banned publication of the Sunday edition of a pro-government newspaper for questioning the security apparatus\u2019s failure to arrest a former government minister convicted of corruption.<\/p>\n<p>According to a statement released by private daily Al-Bawaba, publication of the paper\u2019s Sunday edition was banned because it featured a news report on the failure of Egypt\u2019s security apparatus to arrest Habib al-Adly, a former interior minister who served under autocratic President Hosni Mubarak.<\/p>\n<p>Mubarak was forced to step down as president following an 18-day popular uprising in early 2011.<\/p>\n<p>After having played a central role in Mubarak\u2019s repressive regime from 1997 to 2011, Al-Adly was slapped with a seven-year jail sentence in April &#8212; along with millions of dollars in fines &#8212; after being convicted of embezzling public funds while serving as interior minister.<\/p>\n<p>Al-Bawaba said that the state-run Al-Ahram publishing house had refused to print its Sunday edition because \u201ccertain parties\u201d &#8212; who it did not identify &#8212; had \u201cdemanded the deletion of a front-page report about al-Adly\u2019s continued ability to escape punishment\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Sunday\u2019s news report was meant to coincide with recent parliamentary efforts to question Magdi Abdel Ghaffar, Egypt\u2019s current Interior Minister, regarding al-Adly\u2019s fate and the failure to bring him to justice.<\/p>\n<p>The newspaper has reportedly called on President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi to intervene in the situation with a view to \u201cenforcing the law and protecting [the newspaper] from blatant interference by parties who are trying to conceal their career failures\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Amid steadily mounting criticism, Egypt\u2019s security apparatus insists it is doing everything in its power to find and arrest al-Adly, who disappeared shortly after his conviction in April- worldbullwtin<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Egyptian authorities have banned publication of the Sunday edition of a pro-government newspaper for questioning the security apparatus\u2019s failure to arrest a former government minister convicted of corruption.
