There is no need for DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang to panic over Pas\u2019s call for a Royal Commission Inquiry (RCI) to probe the Memali incident in 1985.<\/p>\n
Pas information chief Nasrudin Hassan said Lim should be aware that the Islamic party was pushing for the RCI, despite claims that the incident was sparked by party president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang\u2019s speech in 1981, dubbed \u201cAmanat Hadi\u201d.<\/p>\n
Nasrudin was responding to Lim\u2019s statement yesterday, in which he urged Hadi to testify during the RCI and explain the impact of the \u201cAmanat Hadi\u201d.<\/p>\n
The incident took place during Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad\u2019s tenure as prime minister.<\/p>\n
\u201cPas had requested for a RCI to be formed, so there\u2019s no need for Lim to panic.<\/p>\n
\u201cOnce it is formed, Pas will give its cooperation.<\/p>\n
\u201cLim is trying to divert people\u2019s attention from this issue to defend his master, Dr Mahathir,\u201d he said yesterday.<\/p>\n
Pas secretary-general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan on Monday welcomed the government\u2019s readiness to set up a RCI to investigate the incident, adding that the party would form a special committee to look into the welfare of Memali victims.<\/p>\n
The Memali incident saw 18 people, including four policemen, killed and several others injured following a police operation to arrest Ibrahim under the abolished Internal Security Act for deviant teachings.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
