{"id":500,"date":"2009-06-24T00:02:18","date_gmt":"2009-06-23T16:02:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/buletinonline.net\/v7\/index.php\/2009\/06\/najib-denies-btn-sows-seeds-of-disunity\/"},"modified":"2009-06-24T00:02:18","modified_gmt":"2009-06-23T16:02:18","slug":"najib-denies-btn-sows-seeds-of-disunity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buletinonlines.net\/v7\/index.php\/najib-denies-btn-sows-seeds-of-disunity\/","title":{"rendered":"Najib denies BTN sows seeds of disunity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><font face=\"arial,helvetica,sans-serif\">KUALA LUMPUR: The government has denied that the national civics bureau (Biro Tatanegara or BTN) institutionalises racial segregation through its orientation courses, despite persistent complaints from participants.<\/p>\n<p>Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said that since its formation in 1981, BTN had carried out programmes in line with its main objectives \u2014 to bolster patriotism and positive attitudes by emphasising good values and love for the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBTN\u2019s function will now be directed towards instilling the spirit of 1Malaysia, people first, performance now,\u201d he said in a written reply to Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham (Beruas-DAP) at the Dewan Rakyat today.<\/p>\n<p>Najib said BTN was responsible for raising the people\u2019s commitment towards the country\u2019s vision and efforts to achieve excellence and prepare the people to uphold the policies in their efforts to pursue development and prosperity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe information imparted to the participants is based on historical facts and does not thrive on narrow racial sentiments,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p><em>Bernama<\/em> reported that Ngeh raised an allegation published in <em>The Star<\/em> on May 22 that BTN courses bred disunity as they emphasised discrimination as a fact of life.<\/p>\n<p><em>The New Straits Times<\/em> had also highlighted the possibility of BTN courses being used as a \u201cbrainwashing\u201d tool.  \t\t\t<\/font><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>KUALA LUMPUR: The government has denied that the national civics bureau (Biro Tatanegara or BTN) institutionalises racial segregation through its orientation courses, despite persistent complaints from participants.
