{"id":48306,"date":"2016-08-17T18:15:57","date_gmt":"2016-08-17T10:15:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.buletinonline.net\/v7\/?p=48306"},"modified":"2016-08-17T17:25:23","modified_gmt":"2016-08-17T09:25:23","slug":"oil-tanker-hijacked-off-malaysia-ooast","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buletinonlines.net\/v7\/index.php\/oil-tanker-hijacked-off-malaysia-ooast\/","title":{"rendered":"Oil Tanker &#8216;Hijacked&#8217; Off Malaysia Ooast"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Malaysian oil tanker carrying 900,000 litres of diesel has been hijacked and taken into Indonesian waters, according to authorities in Malaysia.<\/p>\n<p>The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) said in a statement on Wednesday that the ship, Vier Harmoni, had been located in the waters off Batam, Indonesia.<\/p>\n<p>The MMEA said they had yet to confirm the identity of the hijackers.<\/p>\n<p>The ship had sailed from the Tanjung Pelepas port, in Malaysia, on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Al Jazeera&#8217;s Step Vaessen, reporting from the Indonesian capital Jakarta, said it was unclear if the ship had been actually hijacked.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Sources have told Al Jazeera that the crew may have taken the tanker to Indonesia,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Normally a piracy attack, which happens quite often in the Malacca Strait, follows a different pattern: strangers or pirates will enter the tanker carrying knives and machetes and will siphon off the oil in the middle of the sea and leave the tanker behind.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/buletinonline.net\/v7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/bupq3DdY.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-48308\" src=\"https:\/\/buletinonline.net\/v7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/bupq3DdY-300x177.jpg\" alt=\"bupq3DdY\" width=\"300\" height=\"177\" \/><\/a>&#8220;It&#8217;s a different story as far as we can tell at this stage.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Vaessen said the tanker was near the Indonesian island of Batam.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;But the Indonesian authorities are also confused about the situation and say they are in touch with the Malaysian maritime enforcement agency.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In June last year, pirates hijacked the Orkim Victory, a Malaysian tanker, and pumped the oil from it into another tanker before releasing it.<\/p>\n<p>Source: Al Jazeera and agencies<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Malaysian oil tanker carrying 900,000 litres of diesel has been hijacked and taken into Indonesian waters, according to authorities in Malaysia.
