According to the US intelligence chief the  US fears the group opposes Egypt&#8217;s 1979 <span id=\"lw_1297899604_2\" class=\"yshortcuts\">peace treaty<\/span> with <span id=\"lw_1297899604_3\" class=\"yshortcuts\">Israel<\/span>. <\/p>\n<p>It  also voiced its reservations that intelligence officials feared what  they described were extremist elements in the MB while the Obama  administration was working to reshape its agenda for <span id=\"lw_1297899604_4\" class=\"yshortcuts\">Egypt<\/span> and the broader <span id=\"lw_1297899604_5\" class=\"yshortcuts\">Middle East<\/span> as anti-government protests inspired by revolts behind the fall of rulers in Tunisia and Egypt.<\/p>\n<p>Washington was slow to express support for protesters&#8217; democratic aspirations fearing it would unnerve <span id=\"lw_1297899604_6\" class=\"yshortcuts\">Saudi Arabia<\/span> and Israel who were key regional allies.
