{"id":4674,"date":"2011-02-13T01:14:18","date_gmt":"2011-02-12T17:14:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/buletinonline.net\/v7\/index.php\/2011\/02\/pas-youth-gathers-in-preparation-to-replace-umno\/"},"modified":"2011-02-13T01:14:18","modified_gmt":"2011-02-12T17:14:18","slug":"pas-youth-gathers-in-preparation-to-replace-umno","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buletinonlines.net\/v7\/index.php\/pas-youth-gathers-in-preparation-to-replace-umno\/","title":{"rendered":"PAS Youth gathers in preparation to replace Umno"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>PAS Youth hopes to gather 30,000 members next Saturday to prepare and  signal its readiness to take over from Umno as the dominant Malay party  in the next general election.<\/p>\n<p>Its youth chief Nasrudin Hasan Tantawi said a gathering called \u201cMasa  untuk Berubah: PAS Sedia Ganti Umno\u201d (Time to Change: PAS ready to  replace Umno) will be held in Kedah to outline specific \u201cduties,  regulations and orders\u201d to capture what the movement believes will be  the rise of the young in the impending polls.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis gathering will take place just a week after the world saw the  young generation in Egypt rise up to bring down Hosni Mubarak\u2019s regime  that was in power for 30 years,\u201d said Nasrudin, referring to the  Egyptian president who stepped down on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI believe the same spirit and awareness will reach our country\u2019s  youth who will rise up to replace Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) who  have ruled for 50 years and give its mandate to PAS and Pakatan Rakyat  (PR) in the next general election,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Top party leaders including spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik  Mat and president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang will attend the meet  where Nasrudin is scheduled to give the keynote address to PAS Youth  members on \u201cthe duty of our struggle as well as regulations and order  specifically to face the rising wave of youth towards winning the 13th  general election.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The event will be key to PR\u2019s hopes in an election that is speculated  to be called this year by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, as the  pact relies heavily on PAS\u2019s election machinery to reach Malay voters  that make up two-thirds of the electorate.<\/p>\n<p>The opposition pact has suffered a loss of Malay support since July  2009\u2019s Manek Urai by-election and PAS, which is chiefly in charge of  winning Malay votes, has stepped up its efforts to reverse the swing  towards Umno.<\/p>\n<p>It will also be holding a convention next week to outline its  guarantees to Malays should PR take federal power, including plans to  increase the income of those earning RM1,500 or less a month, 73 per  cent of whom are Bumiputeras.<\/p>\n<p>Central working committee member Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad had said the  party would make a firm stand on issues such as Islam as well as the  political and economic position of Malays to \u201ccontest areas which Umno  says is theirs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Najib, who is also BN chairman, met with Umno division chiefs  yesterday in the latest of a series of discussions with local BN leaders  nationwide that are seen as preparations for possible snap polls soon.<\/p>\n<p>In the past few weeks, he has also met with his assemblymen in  Sarawak, where a state poll must be held by July and also all BN MPs.<\/p>\n<p>Najib is said to be waiting for projects under the Economic  Transformation Programme, which aims to double per capita income by  2020, to start gaining traction with the economy before dissolving  Parliament.-MalaysianInsider<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PAS Youth hopes to gather 30,000 members next Saturday to prepare and signal its readiness to take over from Umno as the dominant Malay party in the next general election.
