{"id":46724,"date":"2016-06-24T23:53:56","date_gmt":"2016-06-24T15:53:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.buletinonline.net\/v7\/?p=46724"},"modified":"2016-06-24T23:08:22","modified_gmt":"2016-06-24T15:08:22","slug":"yemen-crisis-immeasurable-suffering-in-ramadan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buletinonlines.net\/v7\/index.php\/yemen-crisis-immeasurable-suffering-in-ramadan\/","title":{"rendered":"Yemen Crisis: &#8216;Immeasurable&#8217; Suffering in Ramadan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yemen&#8217;s civilians are facing an &#8220;immeasurable&#8221; crisis with the onset of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, according to the UN.<\/p>\n<p>A ceasefire has improved humanitarian access, but some areas are still very hard to reach.<\/p>\n<p>On Yemen&#8217;s Red Sea coast, temperatures often exceed 40C and erratic electricity supplies make observing the fast &#8211; where Muslims refrain from eating or drinking from dawn to dusk &#8211; particularly challenging.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re suffering not only poverty, but frequent power cuts and lack of water,&#8221; Abdu Abdullah Gharefah, a Hudeida resident, told Al Jazeera.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/buletinonline.net\/v7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/gettyimages-477671190.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-46726 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/buletinonline.net\/v7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/gettyimages-477671190-300x188.jpg\" alt=\"gettyimages-477671190\" width=\"300\" height=\"188\" \/><\/a>&#8220;This is causing disease to spread among adults and children. Our life is difficult but we&#8217;re holding on.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Yemen conflict has killed more than 6,400 people and displaced 2.8 million since March last year.<\/p>\n<p>Almost 14 million Yemenis need humanitarian assistance.<\/p>\n<p>The UN says food, fuel and medicines are in short supply and that has pushed prices up.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This could be the worst year in the history of Yemen, especially with the start of the holy month of Ramadan,&#8221; Abdesalam al-Mahtoury, an economic analyst, said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;No doubt prices have gone up as a result of the siege that&#8217;s been imposed for more than 14 months.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The UN says imports are still restricted and many cargo ships cannot offload at Yemen&#8217;s ports.\u00a0It is appealing for $1.8bn in aid for Yemen this year.<\/p>\n<p>So far, it says, it has received just 17 percent of that.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yemen&#8217;s civilians are facing an &#8220;immeasurable&#8221; crisis with the onset of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, according to the UN.
