Controversial columnist Ridhuan Tee Abdullah alleged today that MCA loves risque attire even though it is against Chinese culture to wear clothes that expose the body.<\/p>\n
The Chinese Muslim convert claimed it to be the real reason behind the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) component\u2019s vocal objections to a recent advice by the Kelantan mufti for non-Muslims in the northeast state to cover-up during Ramadan.<\/p>\n
“MCA has always loved anything that exposes the body. This is weird because to say this is Chinese culture is untrue.<\/p>\n
“Are they not ashamed when they put on shorts?” Tee said in his column titled Kenapa suka buka-buka? (Why do you like exposing things?) in Malay daily Sinar Harian.<\/p>\n
The Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin lecturer also alleged that MCA’s criticism of the Kelantan mufti’s advice is proof that the Chinese-based party is “for segregation”.<\/p>\n
The former lifetime member of MCA who quit the party earlier this month over its opposition to PAS\u2019s hudud Bill. He contrasted its leaders\u2019 response to the Kelantanese Peranakan Chinese Association’s statement on the Kelantan mufti’s advice.<\/p>\n
Tee added the statement in support of the mufti\u2019s advice showed not all Chinese felt covering up during Ramadan was a bad thing.<\/p>\n
“Why is it that the Chinese in Kelantan is softer [in its response]? This is because of the assimilation process. The Chinese in Kelantan are no different from the Malays and they understand Malay culture and sensitivity.<\/p>\n
“Not like MCA. They choose segregation. You can see the proof in their website. Not a single word of BM was used apart from the mother tongue and English. MCA thinks it is living in where? Taiwan? Hong Kong?” he criticised.<\/p>\n
Tee questioned MCA\u2019s defence of \u201csexy clothing\u201d and argued this was because the party, which he called ultra-kiasu, feared Islamic laws.<\/p>\n
“Why do MCA defend sexy clothing? Is it a human right? Or what? This is all because the ultra kiasu does not respect our deeply rooted Islamic values. They are afraid that one day Islamic laws will take over,” he said.<\/p>\n
Two weeks ago, Kelantan mufti Datuk Mohamad Shukri Mohamad urged non-Muslims to be considerate and cover up their body parts during Ramadan, saying fasting Muslims may be turned on.<\/p>\n
