PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang announced the Islamist party will no longer join in any street protest organised by other members of the federal opposition.<\/p>\n
Instead, he said the party will express its dissenting views peacefully and democratically.<\/p>\n
“We do not want any interference from outsiders, like what had happened in other countries. PAS participated in the Bersih 1 and 2 rallies, but we chose to pull back when we saw their hidden agenda, which was to create chaos in the country,” he was quoted as saying in a report today by New Straits Times.<\/p>\n
Bersih 2.0, the watchdog pushing for governmental reform, has insisted it does not condone violence and maintained that its street demonstrations have always been peaceful.<\/p>\n
The two-day Bersih 4.0 rally last year however was aimed at pressuring the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to step down.<\/p>\n
Abdul Hadi also said PAS decided against joining the Save Malaysia movement led by former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as it was wary of the group\u2019s methods for a federal leadership change, Malay daily Utusan Malaysia reported separately today.<\/p>\n
Abdul Hadi said PAS believes that elections are the best way to bring about changes if it disagrees with the government.<\/p>\n
