Eng clarifies that he knew bungalow\u2019s market value"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has clarified that he knew full well that the bungalow he purchased had a market value of RM4.2mil.<\/p>\n<p>He refuted news reports that highlighted his ignorance of the market value of the property, saying that the facts had been distorted.<\/p>\n<p>Lim said that when he opened his house to the media for a tour after the controversy came to light, a reporter had asked whether he knew that the property was valued at RM6.5mil as claimed by Umno leaders.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI knew the property\u2019s value was RM4.2mil.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat I said I did not know was how Umno leaders managed to value my house as RM6.5mil because I am a chief minister, not a property agent,\u201d he said before attending a dialogue session with Johor DAP members here on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>The DAP secretary-general also dismissed claims that he was ignorant of the market value as he had paid the bungalow\u2019s stamp duty which was reported to be some RM122,000.<\/p>\n<p>He said the whole incident was Umno\u2019s character assassination of him to shift focus from the 1MDB controversy,
