KEMAMAN – A 56-year-old trader was duped by a man into handing over RM2,000 cash in two transactions for a Perodua Kancil that did not exist. <\/p>\n
The victim found an advertisement about the car on social media while he was surfing the Internet at his home in Kampung Kemasik, here, on Sunday at 4.30pm. According to a source, the car purportedly was equipped with a fancy number plate, but was priced at only RM4,000. Upon seeing the ad, the victim immediately contacted the advertiser. <\/p>\n
“During their conversation, the suspect said the victim had to bank in a deposit of RM500 in cash into his account on the same day,” he said. The victim complied. <\/p>\n
However, several minutes after transferring the money, the victim was asked by the suspect to transfer another RM1,500. <\/p>\n
The victim also paid that amount. The victim was then requested to fetch the car before 8.30am on Monday at a store in Jalan Genting Klang in Kuala Lumpur. <\/p>\n
The victim reached the place at 8.40am, but found no one waiting for him. <\/p>\n
” He tried to call the suspect several times but the line had been disconnected,” said the source. <\/p>\n
Suspecting something was amiss, the man lodged a report at the Wangsa Maju police station at 10.20am yesterday and the report was transferred to the Air Jernih police station the same day. <\/p>\n
