KUALA TERENGGANU – A man was arrested while his accomplice managed to escape during a botched attempt to steal a car which belongs to the Imam of Masjid Assalam in Batu Rakit, here, on Monday. <\/p>\n
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Idris Abdul Rafar said a mosque goer alerted the police that he saw the suspects smashing the Proton Iswara’s window during the Subuh prayer at 6am. <\/p>\n
Idris said a police team rushed to the scene and managed to arrest a 31-year-old man from Pasir Putih, Kelantan. <\/p>\n
“His accomplice in his 30s escaped to a jungle nearby. <\/p>\n
“The suspect tested positive for drug abuse and was being held to assist investigation. We seized an assortment of tools such as a hammer and cutters from the car of the suspects, which is also a Proton Iswara,” he told a press conference at the Kuala Terengganu police station today. <\/p>\n
Idris said the case was being investigated under Section 379A\/511 of the Penal Code for attempted vehicle thefts. He urged those with information of the other suspect to call the nearest police station. <\/p>\n
“There were 33 cases of attempted car thefts and 12 motorcycle thefts reported at mosques in Kuala Terengganu in the first four months of the year,” he said.-nstp<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
