{"id":32526,"date":"2015-04-18T11:00:45","date_gmt":"2015-04-18T03:00:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.buletinonline.net\/v7\/?p=32526"},"modified":"2015-04-18T09:22:22","modified_gmt":"2015-04-18T01:22:22","slug":"new-entertainment-rules-restrict-dressing-lyrics-and-crowd-interaction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buletinonlines.net\/v7\/index.php\/new-entertainment-rules-restrict-dressing-lyrics-and-crowd-interaction\/","title":{"rendered":"New Entertainment Rules Restrict Dressing, Lyrics and Crowd Interaction"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Entertainers coming to Malaysia will now have to adhere to new rules prepared by the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim), which imposes limitations on stage performances, dress and behaviour codes and gender segregation for attendees.<\/p>\n<p>The rules, which were released by the department this week, also stipulate that an artist should not have a criminal record, whether in a Shariah or civil court, and should maintain a \u201cnoble personality\u201d and \u201cgood morals\u201d, even outside the performance.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/buletinonline.net\/v7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Najib K Pop.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-9616 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/buletinonline.net\/v7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Najib K Pop-300x204.jpg\" alt=\"Najib K Pop\" width=\"300\" height=\"204\" \/><\/a>During a performance, the artist must \u201cdress decently\u201d in attire that covers their \u201caurat\u201d, which refers to the \u201cintimate body parts\u201d that Muslims must cover with clothing.<\/p>\n<p>Performances, songs, events and music videos must not insult religious sensitivities, the nation and any race, while the use of any symbolism that go against Islamic teachings and faith is also forbidden.<\/p>\n<p>For stage performances, Jakim insists that jokes told should be \u201csparing\u201d, must \u201ctoe the line\u201d, and should not lead to \u201cextreme laughter\u201d. Entertainers are also forbidden from making light of \u201cserious and mournful matters\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, song lyrics should contain \u201cgoodness and pure values\u201d, in addition to \u201cbringing awareness\u201d and \u201cleading to repentance\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The music accompanying the lyrics, on the other hand, should \u201cmotivate positive atmosphere\u201d and \u201cbring peace\u201d, instead of evoking \u201cnegative emotions that contradict Islamic teachings\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, the rules also ban interaction between men and women attendees of any performance.<\/p>\n<p>The new guidelines were drafted last year but were only approved in the 107th convention of the National Fatwa Committee on February 10 and 11 this year, and superseded the first version which was published in 2007.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/buletinonline.net\/v7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/rosmahku1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-32528 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/buletinonline.net\/v7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/rosmahku1-300x158.jpg\" alt=\"rosmahku1\" width=\"300\" height=\"158\" \/><\/a>The previous guidelines, which included none of the abovementioned rules, were focused on prohibiting elements of vice and idolatry in performances, in addition to ensuring that entertainment events \u201cbenefit the well-being of the public\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>According to Jakim, the new list is meant to assist the authorities in ensuring that entertainment programmes are based on the Islamic faith and codes, and moral values.<\/p>\n<p>Although the guidelines are not considered as binding law, Minister in the Prime Minister\u2019s Department, Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom, had in January, advised approving authorities to remind event organisers to adhere to the list made by Jakim.<\/p>\n<p>The new guidelines also specify that any entertainment events must be referred to the authorities for guidance.<\/p>\n<p>Following a controversial mini-concert featuring South Korean band B1A4 which saw three-tudung clad Malay fans hugging on stage, Jakim had said that the Federal Territories Islamic Department (Jawi) was empowered to act on the organisers as it was under its jurisdiction.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDid all the agencies and the organiser of the event take heed of this guideline?
