{"id":30810,"date":"2015-02-23T14:00:28","date_gmt":"2015-02-23T06:00:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.buletinonline.net\/v7\/?p=30810"},"modified":"2015-02-23T18:42:51","modified_gmt":"2015-02-23T10:42:51","slug":"teleconference-sirul-failed-line-might-congested","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buletinonlines.net\/v7\/index.php\/teleconference-sirul-failed-line-might-congested\/","title":{"rendered":"Teleconference With Sirul Failed, Line Might Have Been Congested"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>PAS information chief Datuk Mahfuz Omar said a teleconference between Malaysian media and Sirul Azhar Umar failed to materialise, because the line might have been congested.<\/p>\n<p>The teleconference, which was supposed to take place at 11.30am Monday at PAS headquarters here, was delayed for about 45 minutes when 15 attempts to call the former police commando failed.<\/p>\n<p>Mahfuz said he had sent a text message to Sirul at 10.44am to alert him that he would be calling him for the teleconference via a different number.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe responded with, \u2018Okay, Datuk\u2019,\u201d said the Pokok Sena MP, before giving up on trying to reach Sirul.<\/p>\n<p>Mahfuz also showed the text of the prior conversation between him and Sirul to the press as a proof that they were in contact.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI apologise for the inconvenience caused. The line might have been congested,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, while waiting for the phone call to go through, Mahfuz was asked by some reporters as to why he wanted to be \u201cinvolved\u201d by seemingly advocating Sirul in the high profile murder case of Mongolian model Altantuya Shaariibuu.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/buletinonline.net\/v7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/mahfuz_omar_sirul.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-30812\" src=\"https:\/\/buletinonline.net\/v7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/mahfuz_omar_sirul-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"mahfuz_omar_sirul\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a>\u201cI\u2019m not trying to meddle but this case has received worldwide attention and we would like to know the motive behind the killing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn 2009, Sirul had also admitted that he was merely a scapegoat and he was only carrying out his duty after receiving an order,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He was further pressed by several reporters whether the man at the end of the line would be Sirul, as there was no visual.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s up to you to decide, but for me as someone who has been in contact with him, I know for a fact that it will be him,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Mahfuz also denied influencing Sirul into giving a teleconference, saying that Sirul was willing to speak to the media on his own accord.<\/p>\n<p>He also claimed that he was not privy to what Sirul would say to the press.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe has spoken to news portal Malaysiakini before, we just thought that it would be fair for the rest of the media to have a chance to speak to him too,\u201d he said reported by the Star Online<\/p>\n<p>Sirul, 43, was reported to have been in Australia since November and was detained in Brisbane last month is now being held at the immigration detention centre in Sydney.<\/p>\n<p>He had failed to appear in the Federal Court which sentenced him and former chief inspector Azilah Hadri, 38, to death for the October 2006 murder of Altantuya, then 26.<\/p>\n<p>Mahfuz has been in contact with Sirul since he offered himself as a confidant following allegations by Sirul\u2019s mother that his son was just carrying out his duty as instructed.<\/p>\n<p>Ending the press conference, Mahfuz said he would be flying to Sydney with Sirul\u2019s family members next week and the details would be made known to the press on
