{"id":3057,"date":"2010-07-28T17:46:34","date_gmt":"2010-07-28T09:46:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/buletinonline.net\/v7\/index.php\/2010\/07\/rm2-million-reseach-on-ubi-gadung\/"},"modified":"2010-07-28T17:46:34","modified_gmt":"2010-07-28T09:46:34","slug":"rm2-million-reseach-on-ubi-gadung","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buletinonlines.net\/v7\/index.php\/rm2-million-reseach-on-ubi-gadung\/","title":{"rendered":"RM2 million Reseach On Ubi Gadung??!!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/buletinonline.net\/v7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/ubikayuubigadung.gif\" border=\"0\" alt=\"http:\/\/buletinonline.net\/images\/stories\/berita28\/ubikayuubigadung.gif\" style=\"float: right;\" \/><strong>KUALA TERENGGANU<\/strong> &#8211; The Terengganu government is allocating RM2 million to fund research on ubi gadung, a type of tuber believed to have medicinal properties.<\/p>\n<p>Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Said said the research to be conducted by Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA) on ubi gadung (Dioscorea daemona), which largely grew wild in the jungles, would not only be on its potential as a food product but also as a traditional remedy.<\/p>\n<p>In traditional medicine, the ubi gadung is believed to contain properties which can help women have bigger breasts.<\/p>\n<p>Ubi gadung can also be used to kill worms and insects, and can easily be grown as animals don&#8217;t feed on it, he said after the signing of a memorandum of understanding on the Ubi Gadung Agriculture Research Programme between the state government and UniSZA, here Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The state government was represented by State Secretary Datuk Mazlah Ngah and UniSZA, by its vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Alias Daud.<\/p>\n<p>Ahmad said the research would enable the state government to think seriously about systematic cultivation of the tuber plant, and for the long term, to grow the crop on a plantation scale with the cooperation of the Agriculture Department.<\/p>\n<p>He said besides Malaysia, ubi gadung was also grown in 150 other countries.<\/p>\n<p>Alias, meanwhile, said UniSZA would engage in 10 research projects on ubi gadung covering aspects such as agronomy, ethnobotany, morphology, anatomy, taxonomy, germplasm, phytochemical screening, biopesticide, in-vitro technolopgy, anti-bacteria and anti-inflammation, post-harvesting handling, engineering and commercialisation.<\/p>\n<p>He said the research findings would benefit the crop growers and provide support information to the state government to further develop its cultivation and production.- BERNAMA<\/p>\n<p>Related Article;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.buletinonline.net\/index.php?option=com_content&amp;view=article&amp;id=2076:makan-ubi-kayu-dan-tanam-ubi-gadung&amp;catid=35:dalam-negeri&amp;Itemid=85\">Makan Ubi Kayu dan Tanam Ubi Gadung<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>KUALA TERENGGANU &#8211; The Terengganu government is allocating RM2 million to fund research on ubi gadung, a type of tuber believed to have medicinal properties.
