{"id":2641,"date":"2010-06-11T06:06:32","date_gmt":"2010-06-10T22:06:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/buletinonline.net\/v7\/index.php\/2010\/06\/pas-ulama-seek-more-governing-roles\/"},"modified":"2010-06-11T06:06:32","modified_gmt":"2010-06-10T22:06:32","slug":"pas-ulama-seek-more-governing-roles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buletinonlines.net\/v7\/index.php\/pas-ulama-seek-more-governing-roles\/","title":{"rendered":"PAS ulama seek more governing roles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MACHANG: The <em>ulama<\/em> in PAS want to play more meaningful roles  in the governance of Pakatan Rakyat states.<\/p>\n<p>The party\u2019s Dewan  Ulama head Datuk Harun Taib said there were currently many capable <em>ulama<\/em> serving in states like Kedah, Selangor and Penang.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMore avenues  should be given by Pakatan states to allow the <em>ulama <\/em>to play  meaningful roles in governance. They can be roped in to help the Pakatan  governments tackle issues such as overcoming social ills.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey  can also advise on the Islamic form of the economy,\u201d he said after the  opening of the Dewan Ulama assembly at the party\u2019s spiritual centre here  yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Harun said there also had to be a better appreciation  of the <em>qisas<\/em> and <em>hudud<\/em> legislation of Islam in Pakatan  states.<\/p>\n<p>He said the <em>ulama <\/em>had also expressed the wish for  closer rapport with professionals in the party and engagement with  non-Muslims and defended the party\u2019s contentious move to admit  non-Muslims by according them \u201cassembly status.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Harun, 67, who  is recovering from a mild stroke, said the networking and cooperation  levels between the <em>ulama<\/em> and professionals were the party\u2019s  secret to success.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis cooperation level needs to be boosted  further to cement PAS\u2019 political clout,\u201d he said, adding that the  professionals and <em>ulama<\/em> complemented each other in PAS, which  believed in the concept of Islam for all.<\/p>\n<p>On the formation of a  PAS\u2019 supporters\u2019 assembly, Harun said as Prophet Muhammad himself had  also engaged non-Muslims, he saw no reason why the party\u2019s grassroots  must reject the concept of including them in its political struggle.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, a delegate caused a stir when he stood up during the  tabling of the wing\u2019s annual accounts statement and asked why the  picture of party deputy president Nasharudin Mat Isa had not been  included in the banners proclaiming Kelantan as the <em>muktamar\u2019s (<\/em>assembly<em>) <\/em>host.<\/p>\n<p>The delegate from Terengganu said only photographs of  president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang and spiritual adviser Datuk Nik  Abdul Aziz Nik Mat were featured, adding that it was unbecoming for the  party to ignore Nasharudin. Organising committee member Abdullah Abdul  Razak said it had assumed that the photographs of Hadi and Nik Abdul  Aziz were sufficient.<\/p>\n<p>However, he could not give an answer why  none of the <em>muktamar <\/em>banners and posters throughout Kelantan also  did not feature Nashrudin\u2019s photograph.<\/p>\n<p>There was speculation  about two years ago that Nasharudin had been supportive of a secret  proposal for PAS to join Umno and form a national unity government. &#8211; The Star<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MACHANG: The ulama in PAS want to play more meaningful roles in the governance of Pakatan Rakyat states.
