Datuk Teng Chang Kim said today he will continue as Selangor executive councillor (exco) under Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim’s leadership even as the DAP man promised to abide by his party’s stand on the mentri besar crisis.

In charge of the local government, research and development committee, Teng ― who has openly declared his support of Khalid previously ― said he has not received any instructions from DAP to step down and will carry on his duties for now.

“I am still getting paid as an exco,” he told reporters when met at the state secretariat building here.

Asked if he backed DAP’s demand for Khalid to be removed from office, Teng said: “I have to follow my party’s instructions.”

The Sungai Pinang assemblyman also confirmed Malay Mail Online’s earlier report that Selangor excos have not met Khalid as requested to reaffirm their support of his leadership, saying: “There was no meeting with MB today on his position”.

Malay Mail Online understands the Selangor excos have been instructed by their respective parties to steer clear of the beleaguered mentri besar except during “official meetings”.

“PKR and DAP will not meet Khalid, that is decided, except during official meetings,” a Pakatan Rakyat (PR) source familiar with the matter said.

The source added that an official statement from the councillors will be issued sometime later today.

Yesterday, Khalid said he will interview his PKR and DAP excos to find out where their loyalties lie in the ongoing political stalemate.

He told the excos to step down if they no longer support him as Selangor mentri besar, saying he could run the state government with just four such officials, citing Article 53 (2)B of the state constitution.

He then insisted he has the necessary number as four PAS state executive councillors have already pledged to stay on to carry out their duties under his leadership.

Khalid was expelled from PKR Saturday after he openly defied the party’s decision to replace him with its president, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

Khalid’s sacking leaves the coalition in a precarious state and will add to worries that snap polls may have to be called to ward off a stalemate.

PKR’s share of the 56 seat Selangor state assembly drops to 13 from 14. Its allies DAP and PAS have 15 seats each while Umno, the opposition in the state, has 12. – themalaymailonline
