Likening the Kuala Lumpur City Hall\u2019s (DBKL) recent eviction of Kg Chubadak Tambahan\u2019s villagers to an \u201cethnic cleansing\u201d, PAS today urged the Barisan Nasional (BN) government to disclose the identities of the developers awarded projects there.<\/p>\n
According to the Islamist opposition party, Malays had settled in the village and surrounding area in Sentul but the community is now being displaced by firms that had not held any previous interest in the land.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will not hesitate to campaign and lobby international bodies if the government insists on continuing what I called an ethnic cleansing,\u201d said Mazlan Aliman, who heads PAS\u2019 bureau of land, urban explorers and Orang Asal affairs.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is an effort to destroy the interests of the Malays, who were the original settlers exploring the area.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mazlan pointed out to previous displacements and evictions in other age-old Malay villages such as Kg Kerinchi and Kg Abdullah Hukum, which were subsequently developed by non-Bumiputera firms.<\/p>\n
