The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) should take action against the three Umno assemblymen in Terengganu for quitting and returning to the party, Opposition lawmakers said.<\/p>\n

Believing that the action of the trio was an abuse of power, Rasah Member of Parliament Teo Kok Seong said the anti-graft body needed to be more proactive.<\/p>\n

MACC, he said, should not wait for a report to be lodged before conducting investigations.<\/p>\n

\"keluar<\/a>\u201cIf they don\u2019t take any action, it will encourage more assemblymen to blackmail a political party, a tactic that needs to be halted,\u201d he said at the Parliament lobby this morning.<\/p>\n

Present was Kuala Terengganu Member of Parliament Datuk Raja Kamarul Bahrain Shah.<\/p>\n

Last month, days after he was replaced as the Menteri Besar in a controversial fashion, Datuk Seri Ahmad Said resigned from the party, along with Bukit Besi assemblyman Roslee Daud and Ajil state assemblyman Ghazali Taib, threatening a political quagmire in the state due to the Barisan Nasional\u2019s slim win in the last general election.<\/p>\n

The Umno trio \u2014 who initially wanted to remain as independent candidates \u2014 retracted their resignations 48 hours later.<\/p>\n

Teo had earlier expressed disappointment with a reply by Minister in the Prime Minister\u2019s Department Paul Low on whether MACC would take action against the three assemblymen.<\/p>\n

Low, in a written reply on Thursday, said that the actions of the trio did not fall under the purview of the commission.<\/p>\n

The former Transparency International (Malaysia) president, however, said that MACC would investigate the matter if a report was lodged and there were elements of corruption.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Raja Kamarul Bahrin hinted that there could be money involved in the process, with many asking if the trio had received a reward to rejoin the party.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
