{"id":23627,"date":"2014-06-16T15:20:22","date_gmt":"2014-06-16T07:20:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.buletinonline.net\/v7\/?p=23627"},"modified":"2014-06-16T15:32:01","modified_gmt":"2014-06-16T07:32:01","slug":"terengganu-bn-reps-flip-flop-resignations-maccs-business","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buletinonlines.net\/v7\/index.php\/terengganu-bn-reps-flip-flop-resignations-maccs-business\/","title":{"rendered":"Terengganu BN Reps\u2019 Flip-flop Resignations Not MACC\u2019s Business"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is not empowered to investigate the brief resignation of three Terengganu assemblymen that plunged the state into a temporary crisis last month, Datuk Paul Low said today.<\/p>\n<p>Low, who is minister in the Prime Minister\u2019s Department in charge of integrity, said in a written parliamentary reply to Rasah MP Teo Kok Seong, however, that the country\u2019s graft busters would investigate the matter if a report was lodged with the commission and if elements of corruption were found.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe actions of the BN Terengganu assemblymen who had left their party on May 13, 2014, is not under SPRM\u2019s jurisdiction,\u201d Low said, referring to the MACC with its Malay initials.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/buletinonline.net\/v7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/matsaid.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-23632 alignright\" alt=\"matsaid\" src=\"https:\/\/buletinonline.net\/v7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/matsaid-300x212.png\" width=\"300\" height=\"212\" \/><\/a>Teo said in response that the actions of the three Barisan Nasional (BN) representatives \u2014 former Terengganu Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said, Bukit Besi assemblyman Roslee Daud and Ajil assemblyman Ghazali Taib \u2014 were akin to playing games with the Terengganu electorate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI call on SPRM to conduct a thorough investigation on the three assemblymen who had returned to BN,\u201d Teo told a press conference at the Parliament lobby here today.<\/p>\n<p>Terengganu was plunged briefly into an administrative crisis when the trio quit Umno on May 13 and became independent representatives, leaving BN with just 14 seats against Pakatan Rakyat\u2019s (PR) 15 in the 32-seat assembly.<\/p>\n<p>The resignations turned BN into a minority government and vulnerable to a vote of no-confidence that could have forced it from the administration.<\/p>\n<p>But the trio retracted their resignation letters a day later and returned to Umno after Ahmad and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak exchanged apologies over a \u201cmisunderstanding\u201d over the wedding of the Terengganu lawmaker\u2019s daughter.<\/p>\n<p>Ahmad previously said his resignation from the party was due to the Umno president\u2019s refusal to allow him to step down from office only after his daughter\u2019s wedding reception on May 17.<\/p>\n<p>Ahmad, who was reappointed Terengganu mentri besar for a second term on May 9 last year, was forced to step down from office mid-term, reportedly due to BN\u2019s weakest polls performance in a decade. &#8211; www.themalaymailonline.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is not empowered to investigate the brief resignation of three Terengganu assemblymen that plunged the state into a temporary crisis last month, Datuk Paul Low said today.
