KUALA TERENGGANU, April 6 (Bernama)– The case on the collapse of the Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium’s roof structure on June 2 last year has been handed over to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for investigation.<\/p>\n
Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Said told the State Assembly sitting Tuesday that he had been informed that the MACC was currently investigating the collapse of the space frame roof structure of the stadium.<\/p>\n
As such, he called on everyone not to make assumptions until the outcome of the investigation had been announced.<\/p>\n
“I cannot explain the matter whether there was any misappropriation or otherwise as I am told by a certain party that the MACC is in the process of investigating the case. So, I hope that we won’t make any wild allegations until the outcome of the MACC probe is explained to the public,” he said.<\/p>\n
Ahmad, who is also the Barisan Nasional Assemblyman for Kijal, said this when replying to an oral question from Dr Syed Azman Syed Ahmad Nawawi (Pas-Batu Buruk) on the latest status concerning the stadium and the party responsible for bearing the cost of reconstruction.<\/p>\n
The State Assembly was told that tender for cleaning up the collapsed roof frame had been issued on March 15 and the closing date is April 19.<\/p>\n
He said the cost for reconstructing the collapsed structure would be borne by the main contractors namely, Bina Struktur Sdn Bhd, Emarcon Sdn Bhd and Genggam Mercu Sdn Bhd.<\/p>\n
The Menteri Besar also explained that although the original cost of constructing the stadium was RM191 million, the cost had increased to RM294 million upon completion on Sept 22, 2007.<\/p>\n
