KUALA TERENGGANU, March 11 (Bernama) — Senibahri Arkitek, the consultancy firm appointed by the state government to design the space frame for Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium has denied involvement in designing the roof.<\/p>\n Architect Raja Kamarul Bahrin Shah said his company was only asked to design the building structure as the principal contractor had chosen a Korean company to design the roof which collapsed on June 2 last year.<\/p>\n “We only acted as government consultant and were not directly involved in the structures’s detailed design and monitoring of the roof’s construction.<\/p>\n “The roof was constructed by a consultant appointed by the principal contractor,” he told a press conference here on Thursday.<\/p>\n Raja Kamarul was commenting a report on the stadium roof collapse announced by Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Said after chairing the State Exco meeting here yesterday.<\/p>\n He said under the contract, the principal contractor, consultants and specialist contractors were involved in the roof’s detailed design.<\/p>\n “They (consultants and specialist contractors) were appointed by the principal contractor to design, construct, supervise and build the roof’s space frame and related works.”<\/p>\n Raja Kamarul who welcomed the report said he had explained the matter to the Board of Architects Malaysia (LAM) and the Malaysian Institute of Architects (PAM).<\/p>\n He said Senibahri Arkitek had sent four letters to the Public Works Department (PWD) on the roof’s defects and would not be responsible if anything was to happen.<\/p>\n “We believe that the collapse of the 2,500 tonne roof costing RM35 million will impact the stadium’s structure,” he added.<\/p>\n — BERNAMA<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" KUALA TERENGGANU, March 11 (Bernama) — Senibahri Arkitek, the consultancy firm appointed by the state government to design the space frame for Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium has denied involvement in designing the roof.
