The flooding in Pahang has almost paralysed the town centre and surrounding areas when there is no electricity and water supply in most parts while the flooding in the state, Johor, Terengganu and Kelantan has seen over 31,700 people evacuated.<\/p>\n
As at 5pm, the number of victims in Pahang jumped to 19,750 with the highest in Kuantan with 12,007 evacuated due to the severe flood, Rompin (3,982), Pekan (2,750), Maran (1,005) and Jerantut (6).<\/p>\n
To compound the matter, the phone lines and handphone coverage are unstable, making it difficult to reach the police and other agencies. <\/p>\n
Kuantan Fire and Rescue operations centre said although the heavy rain has stopped, the flood water had risen in many areas including Sungai Isap and Indera Sempurna while the roads to the East Coast Expressway are also impassable by light vehicles.<\/p>\n
“We are operating using a generator set as there is no electricity since last night.<\/p>\n
“Our men are also facing difficulties to evacuate the victims as the water rose so fast in several areas while the flood relief centres are already full,” he said when contacted today.<\/p>\n
Checks made in the town area showed that most of the business premises were closed while several fuel stations and grocery stores opened were swarmed by panic motorists.<\/p>\n
As at 11.30am, the state police operations centre could not be reached but the number of evacuees are expected to exceed the 9,000 recorded last night.
\nBERNAMA report said Water and electricity supply have been cut off in most areas in Kuantan while roads in and around the town are inundated by up to one metre of water.<\/p>\n
It is the same in the suburbs and villages in the vicinity of Kuantan where floodwaters are reported to have reached up to two metres.<\/p>\n
A spokesman at the flood operations room at the Pahang police headquarters said as of 11am today, a total of 11,721 flood victims were being sheltered in flood relief centres in Kuantan, Rompin, Pekan, Maran and Jerantut. <\/p>\n
He said in Kuantan, 4,148 evacuees were being sheltered in 33 relief centres, Rompin (3,615 in 10 centres), Pekan (2,716 in nine centres), Maran (1,179 in nine centres ) and Jerantut (63 in one centremost premises of commercial enterprises and financial institutions in Kuantan closed following power outages. <\/p>\n
Members of the press also encountered difficulties to operate as most of them are also based in the town.<\/p>\n
Residents in low lying-areas and housing estates around Kuantan were also directed to be prepared to move out as rain had yet to abate and furthermore a a rip tide at the mouths of Sungai Kuantan and Sungai Lembing tonight. <\/p>\n
Several relief centres were experiencing problems on food supply and other basic necessities as they had been cut off due to the floods.<\/p>\n
In JOHOR, 49 flood relief centres are still opened in several districts in the state to house 7,412 flash flood victims from 2,016 families as at 12pm today.<\/p>\n
In TERENGGANU, the floods in Kemaman, Dungun and Hulu Terengganu worsened with 4,067 people evacuated to 50 relief centres, compared to 2,811 yesterday.<\/p>\n
The National Security Council has deployed its Smart team of 32 members to Terengganu to help in the search and rescue mission, as floods worsened in the state today.<\/p>\n

To date, over 20,000 people have been evacuated in these three states while Kelantan has been put on the alert for possible flooding after all the major rivers breached the danger level.<\/p>\n
In KELANTAN, the first group of 232 victims in Kuala Krai were moved from their houses to evacuation centres this morning.<\/p>\n
According to the state flood operation centre, the victims who were from Kampung Guchil and Manek Urai Lama, were evacuated to three centres at the Kuala Krai veterinary office, SK Banggol Guchil and SK Manek Urai Lama.<\/p>\n
