PAS delegates have chosen it’s information chief Datuk Tuan IbrahimTuan Man (pic) as one of three vice-presidents after a recount of votes. <\/p>\n
He joins two other incumbents Salahuddin Ayub and Datuk Husam Musa who won the five-way battle for the three vice-presidents posts.<\/p>\n
Tuan Ibrahim who is part of the Ulama faction in the party edged out another incumbent and Pokok Sena MP Datuk Mahfuz Omar following Friday’s voting.<\/p>\n
The results were supposed to be released Saturday, but was delayed following a recount because the difference in votes was very close. <\/p>\n
The highest number of votes in the race went to Salahuddin Ayub who garnered 917 votes, followed by Tuan Ibrahim with 847 votes and Husam with 520 votes.<\/p>\n
Mahfuz secured 504 votes while another candidate Datuk Abu Bakar Chik got 364 votes.<\/p>\n
When met by reporters later, Mahfuz took it with a stride and said that the decision made by the delegates should be respected.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is what the delegates have chosen and should be respected by everyone, including the candidates. <\/p>\n
\u201cI have contested the position three times before and I lost,\u201d said Mahfuz, who was his usual self.<\/p>\n
He also said that it would not be right for him to pin the blame on two other candidates who joined the fray, which eventually cost him the position.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf that is the case, no one would have got a chance to contest in any position,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He also denied suggestions that the recount caused his loss, saying that losing and winning was part of the election.<\/p>\n
Husam however could not contain his emotions on Mahfuz\u2019s loss.<\/p>\n
\u201cMahfuz has always contributed his views and decisions in party meetings,\u201d he said, trembling.<\/p>\n
He then went on to hug Mahfuz after finishing his winding-up speech on the last day of PAS\u2019 59th Muktamar here Sunday.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, newly-elected Tuan Ibrahim said he was \u201csad\u201d with his victory as Mahfuz lost his vice-president post.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe will still shine no matter where he is. There\u2019s no such thing as losing and winning in the party. It is all about gaining a victory for Islam,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
