Penang PAS criticised the state government on Tuesday for its \u201cunreasonable interference\u201d in the administration of Islamic affairs as well as appointments to state agencies and Village Development and Security Committees.<\/p>\n
State deputy commissioner Muhammad Fauzi Yusoff said PAS would pull its representatives from state government posts if the \u2018interference\u2019 did not stop.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will pull out our representatives from state government and municipal council posts if the party is not given appropriate roles and positions in the state government,\u201d he said at a press conference here.<\/p>\n
Muhammad Fauzi said state PAS commissioner Datuk Mohd Salleh Man, who is also Penang Islamic Religious Council president, must be given full authority to appoint council members.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe must also have the freedom to appoint anyone to helm posts in agencies and companies under the purview of the council.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe understand that there have been unnecessary interference from state exco members on this issue,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Muhammad Fauzi said the party has only two representatives each in the Penang Municipal Council and Seberang Prai Municipal Council.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe want this to be increased to four in each council,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He said the party also wants its representatives to be appointed directors of state government-owned companies.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have submitted our requests to the state government and the state executive councillor concerned but there has been no response,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He said PAS should be given the full authority to pick<\/p>\n
Village Development and Security committees in the constituencies that it had contested.<\/p>\n
In the last general election, the party contested in six state seats and two parliamentary seats in Penang but it won only the Permatang Pasir state seat.<\/p>\n
