KUALA TERENGGANU – An eight-year-old boy and his 85-year-old great-grandmother were left homeless after fire ripped their house in Kampung Bukit Bayas here yesterday.<\/p>\n
Wan Muhammad Aiman Wan Badrol Azhar was accompanying his great-grandmother Wan Esah Abdullah at a nearby fish stall when the fire broke out at 10.30am. Wan Esah said when they were at the stall, she saw smoke billowing up, but never thought that it was from her house.<\/p>\n
“When I finally realised that it was our house that was on fire, it was too late. There was nothing we can do or save…we can only stare in disbelief,” she told reporters at the scene.<\/p>\n
She said her great-grandson, who has stayed with her since he was a baby, could not stop crying over the incident.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, officer-in-charge of Kuala Terengganu Fire and Rescue station Rozali Hussin said three fire engines with 19 firefighters were rushed to the scene after receiving the distress call about the fire.<\/p>\n
He said when they arrived, the blaze had destroyed the victim’s house completely and was fast spreading to nearby houses.<\/p>\n
“We failed to save the victim’s house, but we managed to stop the fire from destroying the other two houses,” he said, adding that losses were estimated at RM60,000 and the actual cause of fire was being investigated. \u2013 Bernama<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
