The Pas assemblyman for Batu Buruk claimed trial in the Sessions Court today to organising a Blackout 505 rally at Padang Merbok without permission from City Hall.<\/p>\n
Dr Syed Azman Syed Ahmad Nawawi, 52, allegedly organised the rally which contravened condition by the Dang Wangi Officer in Charge of Police District (OCPD) that permission be gotten from the field’s owner, City Hall, first before any assembly could be held there.<\/p>\n
The Dang Wangi OCPD at the material time was Assistant Commissioner Zainuddin Ahmad.<\/p>\n
Syed Azman allegedly committed the offence at Padang Merbok, Jalan Parlimen here, between 2pm and 6pm on June 22.<\/p>\n
The Pas deputy secretary-general also pleaded not guilty to an alternative charge of failing to include City Hall’s permission in his June 12 notification to the same Dang Wangi OCPD, of his intent to hold an assembly there.<\/p>\n
The alternative offence allegedly occurred at the same place, time, and date. <\/p>\n
Both offences carry a penalty of fine not exceeding RM10,000 under Sections 15(3) and 9(5) of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 respectively.<\/p>\n
Judge Mat Ghani Abdullah granted RM3,000 bail and fixed Oct 22 for case management.<\/p>\n
He also allowed an application by deputy public prosecutor Nurulhuda Muhammad Nor for Syed Azman be jointly tried with three other persons facing similar charges.<\/p>\n
The other three persons are Parti Keadilan Rakyat(PKR) secretariat Muhammad Adib Ishar, 24, PKR Member of Parliament for Pandan Rafizi Ramli, 36, and DAP MP for Seremban Anthony Loke Siew Fook, 36. <\/p>\n
Judge Mat Ghani fixed Dec 9 and 10 for hearing.<\/p>\n
