Perikatan Nasional may use the PAS logo or that of another component party in the Melaka state election if its own remains unavailable \u00adfollowing the Registrar of Societies\u2019 (ROS) suspension order.<\/p>\n
Its secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan (pic) said there was no requirement for parties working together in an election to use their respective logos, as they could instead adopt the logo of one of the component parties.<\/p>\n
\u201cA party can use the logo of any party that shows they are united or working together, even if they do not have a coalition,\u201d he said after opening the Bunut Payung state constituency\u2019s Karnival Cakna Rakyat in Kota Baru, Kelantan, yesterday, according to Sinar Harian.<\/p>\n
Takiyuddin cited the General Election in 2018 as a precedent, when DAP, PKR and Bersatu contested under the PKR logo before Pakatan Harapan adopted a common logo.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is not an offence under election laws,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
On negotiations with Barisan Nasional, Takiyuddin said \u00addiscussions had yet to be finalised but had passed the halfway mark.<\/p>\n
He said talks were continuing and the ROS action had no impact on Perikatan\u2019s position on the proposed political cooperation, adding that negotiations remained on track in line with PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang\u2019s call for the \u201cunity of the ummah\u201d.<\/p>\n
He also denied reports that Perikatan had been allocated seven seats to contest in the Melaka polls.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat has not been decided yet and is still being negotiated. But things are positive and we are optimistic,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
According to ROS, the suspension followed a complaint lodged by Bersatu on Aug 11 over \u00adallegations that the party was not involved in the Perikatan supreme council meeting on July 16, as well as issues concerning its membership in the coalition.<\/p>\n
Takiyuddin said Perikatan had formed a team to study possible legal action against ROS.<\/p>\n
\u201cTomorrow, we will have a meeting with the lawyers in Kuala Lumpur.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will decide on the appropriate action, whether to seek an injunction or a declaration on whether the ROS decision is valid or not,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
On Bersatu\u2019s position in the state governments, Takiyuddin said the matter should be referred to the respective state governments.<\/p>\n
