Perikatan Nasional has called for a new Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) to be established to reinvestigate Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH).<\/p>\n
PN secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said this was necessary as findings from the previous RCI report on TH had been used to manipulate the narrative and portray the agency as having been embroiled in a major financial scandal.<\/p>\n
He claimed that the issue now was the alleged manipulation of information concerning TH, which he said had been exaggerated to portray the country’s Islamic financial institution as being in serious financial trouble.<\/p>\n
Takiyuddin also claimed there were factual errors during the Dewan Rakyat’s winding-up session to debate the RCI on TH by the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan, giving the impression that he did not fully understand issues concerning the agency.<\/p>\n
“We do not deny that there may have been technical errors that can be rectified, but these should not be used as an attack to portray TH as having been embroiled in such a major scandal.<\/p>\n
I agree with the forum participants’ proposal for the RCI on TH to be re-established to investigate TH’s position from 2018 to date.<\/p>\n
“Therefore, the government is urged to establish a new RCI into the administration and management of TH, beginning from the end of the previous RCI’s period up to now,” said the PAS secretary-general.<\/p>\n
Takiyuddin, who is also the Kota Baru member of parliament, said this at a press conference after attending the Musyawarah Nasional 2.0 Forum – Reality and Perception: Don’t Politicise TH, here today.<\/p>\n
Also present were Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Wanita Umno chief Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad, Puteri Umno chief Datuk Nurul Amal Mohd Fauzi and Umno secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Mohd Razlan Rafii also supported the establishment of a new RCI to investigate TH’s financial affairs after the previous RCI.<\/p>\n
He said the move was aimed at determining whether there had been any elements of misconduct or the sale of assets to interested parties.<\/p>\n
“The government is responsible for conducting an investigation and taking appropriate action against those responsible.<\/p>\n
