PAS is prepared to consider swapping its incumbent state and parliamentary seats with Umno, subject to certain conditions in upcoming elections, deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said.<\/p>\n
He said, in principle, incumbent seats should remain with the party that won them in the previous general election, but seat swaps could be considered through negotiations based on circumstances in each constituency.<\/p>\n
“For example, Umno might want to contest a particular seat, but they may have to give up another seat of equal standing. Any proposed seat exchange should generally involve a ‘win seat for win seat’ or ‘losing seat’ arrangement.<\/p>\n
“Negotiations are not necessarily limited to seats within the same state or parliamentary constituency but could involve constituencies across different states,” he told reporters after opening the national-level cyber troopers’ or ‘mujahid cyber’ convention at the party’s Al Makmur Complex here today.<\/p>\n
Tuan Ibrahim said PAS was flexible in determining the most suitable arrangements through negotiations, given the people’s positive response to efforts towards ‘penyatuan ummah’ (Muslim unity).<\/p>\n
Earlier, Tuan Ibrahim was asked whether PAS planned to maintain the status quo by defending all the state seats it currently holds, including those in Pahang, in the upcoming elections.<\/p>\n
On seat negotiations to establish political cooperation with Pahang Umno, Tuan Ibrahim said it was still too early to discuss the matter as the focus was currently on the Melaka state election.<\/p>\n
“I believe all parties are focusing on the Melaka state election, followed by Sarawak, and let’s see what happens after that,” he said.<\/p>\n
Last week, Pahang PAS commissioner Datuk Rosli Abdul Jabar said the party was ready for talks.<\/p>\n
