: Pas today says its election seat strategy is based on voter demographics and local support patterns, not fear of contesting against any political party.<\/p>\n
Its election director Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor said the approach had long been part of Malaysia’s political landscape, with parties usually contesting in areas where they had a strong support base.<\/p>\n
He said Pas did not field candidates in seats with a majority of non-Malay voters because it understood voting trends, just as other parties focused on constituencies where they had stronger voter support.<\/p>\n
“In a Chinese-majority area, why would Pas contest there? We know who supports us and who does not. That is political reality.<\/p>\n
“Pas knows who its voters are, and DAP also knows who its voters are. This has long been the reality in the country’s politics,” he told reporters yesterday<\/p>\n
Sanusi, who is also Kedah Menteri Besar, dismissed claims that Pas was afraid to face DAP, saying such political challenges did not reflect realities on the ground.<\/p>\n
“If that is the case, ask DAP to contest in Malay areas. Tell DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke to contest in Jeneri in the next election. Then we will see what happens.<\/p>\n
“If I ask Anthony Loke, Tony Pua or Hannah Yeoh to contest in Jeneri, would they do it? These are political realities. It is not a question of courage,” he said.<\/p>\n
Sanusi said seat distribution in Malaysia was generally shaped by racial composition and local political history.<\/p>\n
He said these factors had long formed the basis of election strategies for all political parties.<\/p>\n
Yesterday, Loke claimed that Pas was afraid to face DAP in the Johor election and had instead chosen to rely on Barisan Nasional as a “proxy.”<\/p>\n
