The family of Nik Alif Aiman Abdul Ariffahmi is mulling legal action after the latter allegedly became the victim in a slapping incident involving a former senator.<\/p>\n
Nik Alif, who is the grandson of the late Pas spiritual leader Tan Sri Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, previously claimed that he was slapped by Beruas Umno chief Datuk Dr Azhar Ahmad.<\/p>\n
Nik Alif’s father, Ariffahmi Ab Rahman, said he believed his son was telling the truth about the incident, which allegedly occurred during a university programme in Janda Baik, Pahang, last month.<\/p>\n
Ariffahmi also denied claims that Nik Alif had put off lodging a police report for political reasons.<\/p>\n
Ariffahmi said the family had initially wanted to give the university time to resolve the matter without involving the police.<\/p>\n
However, he claimed the university appeared to be siding with Azhar and had attempted to downplay the issue.<\/p>\n
“The university should have acted responsibly. As the organiser of the programme in Janda Baik, it should protect the dignity and safety of the students involved,” he was quoted as saying by Sinar Harian.<\/p>\n
Ariffahmi said the family would appoint a lawyer to present the facts of the case, which had yet to be made public.<\/p>\n
“We trust that the truth will be revealed, and we will fight for it through the proper channels,” he said.<\/p>\n
Yesterday, the media reported that Azhar was also considering legal action over defamatory claims circulating about the incident.<\/p>\n
Nik Alif, who heads his university’s student representative council, claimed the incident occurred about 6pm on May 20 after a ceramah during a university programme in Janda Baik.<\/p>\n
