Kampung Tok Jembal of Kuala Terengganu may be swallowed by the sea in a few years if measures are not taken to address the severe problem of coastal erosion.
Universiti Malaysia Terengganu’s (UMT) Centre of Marine Engineer-ing Studies researcher Dr Moham-mad Fadhli Ahmad said a simulation conducted four years ago found that 42.6m of the beach area would be eroded.
“The area that would be worst affected would be a 3.4km stretch from north of the Sultan Mahmud Airport to UMT and also involves Kampung Tok Jembal,” he told Bernama recently.
Mohammad Fadhli said the study also found that 166km or 66 per cent of the Terengganu’s coast was also being affected by erosion, and this involved the districts of Kuala Terengganu, Marang, Besut, Dungun, Kemaman and Setiu
